POINTS FOR MACLAY REGIONAL CHANGE & WEST COAST POINTS REMINDER

Lexington, Ky – August 2, 2022 – Reminder – New as of September 1, 2021, riders need only to acquire the points required for their home state to qualify to compete in any Maclay Regionals.

Once riders earn the number of points needed for their home state they should not continue competing past their fourteen (14) show limit, even if they intend to change regions and compete in a region that requires a higher point value to qualify. THE ONLY REQUIREMENT TO SHOW IN ANY REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IS TO EARN THE NUMBER OF POINTS REQUIRED BY A RIDER’S HOME STATE.

Example: If a rider from Vermont earns the 17 points needed to qualify per their home state, that rider may choose to change to Region 2 and need not acquire further points to make that change.

WEST COAST QUALIFYING POINT ADJUSTMENTS FOR MACLAY REGIONALS AND HAMEL FINALS

REMINDER – After careful consideration, the National Horse Show has decided to adjust the point requirements required to qualify for the Maclay Regionals and Hamel Finals. This adjustment is being made to compensate for the loss of competitive opportunities for our members as a result of the EHV-1 outbreak earlier this year.

The point adjustments will be for California, all contiguous states to California, and the state of Washington. The formula used to establish these totals is the same that was implemented for the adjustments due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The point values needed to qualify would change to:

Maclay Points:
·    California-29
·    Washington-15
·    Oregon-15
·    Arizona-15
·    Nevada-9

Hamel Points:
·    California-27
·    Washington-13
·    Oregon-1
·    Arizona-13
·    Nevada-8

If members from other areas of the country feel they have suffered hardship in qualifying due to EHV-1 they can contact us directly and requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
