Lexington, Ky. – Nov. 1, 2021 – Hunter riders were eager to kick off week two of competition at the 2022 National Horse Show (NHS) Tuesday, November 1st in the famed Alltech Arena. The country’s top Amateur-Owner riders took center stage Tuesday evening to vie for top honors in their respective divisions.
Kentucky’s very own Bobby Murphy (USA) set forth a flowing nine-obstacle course that challenged the horses to keep an open and forward pace throughout the entirety of the track. Murphy asked horse-and-rider pairs to demonstrate their traditional hunter form and cadence across the course, which was designed to focus on the traditional hunt-style with the beautiful natural jumps and long-set lines.
Starting the Amateur-Owner competition off strong, Jamie Auletto piloted her very own Idolize to the blue in the first over fences class of the Suzanne Thoben Marquard Amateur-Owner Hunter Over 35. The 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding carried Auletto to a score of 86 points to lead the way in the division going into day two.
Silver Lining and Callie Seaman lead in the Hunt LTD Amateur-Owner Hunter Under 35 division going into the second day of A/O competition. Seaman took top honors in the first over fences round with a score of 88 points, the highest score of the entire Amateur-Owner division. Seaman also claimed third place on the flat aboard her own 8-year-old Westphalian gelding, Silver Lining, to secure the highest amount of points to top the competitive pack of horse-and-rider combinations.
The Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Oare Amateur-Owner Hunter 3’3” Over 35 saw Chris Brown and Newport in the highly contested winner’s circle. Brown was the first to go, and held the lead through the entire class. The 9-year-old Holsteiner gelding, Newport, jumped effortlessly to a score of 86 points in the over fences round to secure the lead going into day two. The duo also claimed fourth place honors in the under saddle.
Seaside and Samantha Sommers closed out the final over fences round of the day with a score of 85 points to earn the blue ribbon in the Rencourt Foundation Amateur-Owner Hunter 3 ‘3” 18-25 division. Sommers piloted Huckleberry Farm’s 16-year-old Warmblood gelding to a picture-perfect hunter round and a fifth place on the flat to wrap up day one of hunter competition.
Hunter competition will continue Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:00 a.m. with the $1,000 Green 3’6” Hunter Under Saddle, and will conclude with the $2,500 Amateur Owner 3’3” Hunter 18-35 Stake in the Alltech Arena.
